Punjab MC elections: Punjab and Haryana High Court orders videography of election process
Punjab MC elections: In a significant development ahead of the Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council elections in Punjab, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered that the entire election process be videographed. This decision follows a petition filed by the Punjab BJP after disturbances in Patiala during the nomination process. The court has directed the State Election Commission to ensure that all election-related activities, including nominations, voting, and counting, are recorded through videography at all polling stations and locations.
The BJP's petition highlighted concerns that their candidates were obstructed from filing nominations in certain areas, particularly in Patiala. In light of these issues, the Punjab and Haryana Court has instructed the Election Commission to take immediate action and ensure transparency in the process. The order also mandates videography across Punjab to ensure the integrity of the election proceedings.
The Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council elections are set to take place on December 21, with results to be declared on the same day. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on December 13, and candidates will have until December 14 to withdraw their nominations. Election symbols will also be allotted on this day.
