PTC Web Desk: In a landmark move, the Punjab Government has appointed permanent teachers in the state’s prisons for the first time. Appointment letters were distributed to 15 Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers out of a total of 22 posts on Thursday. These educators will be deployed across various prisons in Punjab to teach inmates and provide educational support to children who stay with their mothers in jail until the age of six.

This initiative marks a significant shift, as previous educational arrangements in prisons were managed by contractual or temporary teachers. The introduction of permanent teaching staff aims to enhance the quality of education provided within the prison system.

Additionally, the new teachers will ensure that children born to incarcerated mothers receive proper education during their early developmental years.

Punjab is also strengthening prison security measures. A new high-security prison is under construction near Ludhiana, equipped with advanced surveillance systems to ensure better monitoring of inmates and enhanced public safety.
