Punjab govt orders magisterial inquiry into police assault on Army officer
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Government has initiated an inquiry into an alleged incident involving police officials using excessive force against Colonel Pushpinder Bath, a serving officer of the Indian Army, and his son. The incident reportedly occurred on March 13, 2025, near Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.
Following dissatisfaction expressed by the officer’s family over the ongoing investigation, the state government has stressed its commitment to conducting a fair and impartial probe.
In an official order issued by the Department of Home Affairs (Home-3 Branch), the Punjab Government has appointed Paramvir Singh, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Patiala, as the inquiry officer. He has been granted the powers of a Special Executive Magistrate under Section 15 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, to lead the investigation.
The inquiry must be completed within three weeks, with a detailed report submitted to the government. A copy of the order has been forwarded to District Magistrate, Patiala Paramvir Singh, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Patiala and Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala.
The Punjab Government has assured strict action based on the findings of the inquiry.
