Punjab flood situation eases; water level in dams below danger mark: CM Mann
Chandigarh, July 12: After a trail of destruction, the flood situation in the state of Punjab has started easing, though relief work is still underway and efforts are being made to pump out water from low-lying areas and fields. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said relief work was being carried out on a war footing in the flood-affected areas.
He claimed that the state government would compensate people for every single penny of loss incurred by them on account of heavy and incessant rainfall across the state.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said he was monitoring the situation every moment by taking regular updates from across Punjab. He said a regular vigil was being kept through the district administrations in the entire state regarding the level of water and relief measures being carried out in these districts. Bhagwant Mann said the state government was duty bound to help people in this hour of grave crisis.
The Punjab Chief Minister said help and relief was being provided even to the last person in the far flung areas of the state. He said special thrust was being laid to ensure relief in the worst affected areas of the state so that people did not face any sort of problem. Bhagwant Mann said priority was being given to carry rescue and relief work in the badly affected areas of the state.
The Chief Minister said all the dams in the state were safe and water was flowing below the danger mark. He expressed hope that by Wednesday evening, the situation in the state would improve considerably by all means. Bhagwant Mann said already all Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and officials were in their respective areas and reaching out to the needy in this hour of grave crisis.
The Chief Minister said an elaborate mechanism had been put in place to safeguard the life and property of people from the increasing level of water. He said DCs and SSPs were expediting the relief work in their respective districts so as to provide succor to the masses. Bhagwant Mann said the state government was duty bound to secure the interests of the people in this situation caused due to the heavy downpour.
