Punjab: Protesting farmers declare continued closure of Ladowal toll plaza despite HC orders

PTC Web Desk: Farmers from Punjab are adamant on continuing their blockade of the Ladowal toll plaza on the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway, despite recent orders from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court has directed the reopening of the toll plaza and granted the state government a one-month extension to address related issues. However, Punjab farmers have made it clear that they will not permit the toll plaza to operate.

In response to the Punjab and Haryana court's directive, farmers organised a meeting on Thursday with various unions and groups at the toll plaza. The meeting was aimed at discussing their strategy and reinforcing their stance.

Farmers’ leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s decision, particularly the instruction to file a separate petition. They reiterated that their protest will continue until their demands are fully addressed. Key issues include a reduction in toll rates and resolution of other grievances related to toll plazas.

The farmers said their protests were a response to their unmet demands and they were determined to keep the toll plaza shut until satisfactory solutions were provided.
