Flying High: Punjab farmers' daughters commissioned as flying officers
Chandigarh, June 17: Rising from agriculture to aviation, two farmer daughters were commissioned as flying officers in the Indian Air Force (IAF) Saturday. Flying Officers Ivraj Kaur and Prabhsimran Kaur were commissioned as flying officers from the Air Force Academy, Dundigal, Hyderabad.
Ivraj Kaur has been commissioned as a helicopter pilot. She is the daughter of Jaspreet Singh, a farmer from Rupnagar district.
Prabhsimran Kaur has been commissioned in the education branch of the IAF. Her father, Paramjit Singh, is a farmer. She hails from Gurdaspur district.
Both girls had received training at the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls in Mohali, which equips girls from the state with the skills necessary to join armed forces training academies all around the nation.
The authorities at the Institute say that this success will surely encourage more children from the small towns and villages of Punjab to explore opportunities in serving the nation as commissioned officers.
The fathers of both girls are proud farmers. Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora congratulated both girls on their remarkable achievement. He added that their success will undoubtedly inspire children in Punjab's small towns and villages to look into opportunities to serve the country as commissioned officers in the armed forces.
