Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav wears Gurmukhi engraved name badge

Chandigarh, December 21: Punjab Police force on Wednesday pitched in Punjab Government’s drive to promote Punjabi language in state. To honour the mother tongue, Punjab's DGP Gaurav Yadav has removed the English language nameplate from his uniform and put up name badge written in Punjabi language. Wearing Gurmukhi engraved name badge, DGP Punjab said that it is a matter of honour for him to promote Punjabi language.  

Although, Police department is yet to issue official orders about this but it is anticipated that now the entire Punjab Police can also put name plates written in Punjabi language. Although at present no written order has been issued by the DGP for this, but all the departments of Punjab have been ordered by the Honorable Government to implement it for the purpose of promoting the Punjabi language.


CM Bhagwant Mann's government had recently issued orders to put signboards written in Punjabi language on Mandi Board, Corporation, Corporation, Council, Government Office, Police Station, Tehsil and all other types of government buildings in Punjab. These orders have also been made mandatory for private buildings and private offices in Punjab. The Punjab government has given the last ultimatum till February 21 to do so. After this, action can be taken against those who do not follow the government orders.
