Punjab Congress women’s protest over Rs 1,100 scheme turns chaotic; police use water cannons
PTC Web Desk: A protest by Punjab Congress women in Chandigarh turned tense on Friday as the police clashed with demonstrators, using water cannons to disperse the crowd. The protest, led by senior leaders, including Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and former Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, was staged against the AAP government over its unfulfilled promise of providing Rs 1,100 per month to women.
The demonstrators were marching towards the Punjab Vidhan Sabha when the police intervened, leading to several detentions. Addressing the protest, Raja Warring said, “We decided to ‘gherao’ the Punjab Legislative Assembly because, for the past three years, the state government has been deceiving the women of Punjab by not fulfilling its promise of financial assistance.”
