Punjab CM honours 55 teachers; says teachers will soon be relieved of extracurricular duties
PTC Web Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on his visit to Hoshiarpur, honoured 55 teachers at a state-level event organised for Teacher's Day on Thursday. In his address, the Punjab Chief Minister discussed plans to introduce a new policy in Punjab, on the lines of New Delhi, which will streamline teachers' roles to focus solely on teaching, relieving them of additional administrative and extracurricular duties.
Punjab CM Mann recounted how his own educational experiences, influenced by his father's teaching career, continue to benefit him. He said the new policy, earlier implemented by Manish Sisodia in Delhi, aims to ensure that teachers are not burdened with non-teaching responsibilities, including tasks related to electoral processes, census work, and even emergency duties during the pandemic.
The Chief Minister also addressed issues of student safety, noting concerns about schools being used as hubs for substance abuse. He said to combat this, the government had planned to deploy caretakers in schools to protect students from such influences.
CM Mann also announced plans to remove police check-posts and stations from school premises to create a more conducive learning environment.
At the event, 55 teachers were awarded state honours, including 10 with the Young Teacher Award, 5 with the Managerial Award for enhancing school facilities, and seven with Special Honours for their exceptional contributions.
