Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann addresses media on financial state of Punjab

Chandigarh, April 7: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government addressed media on the financial state of Punjab in a press conference in Chandigarh on Friday. PSPCL CMD Baldev Singh Saran was also present on the occasion. 

While addressing media, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that Punjab achieved historic  ₹2,587 crore increase in revenue during the financial year 2022-23 as compared to the 2021-22 financial year. 


Punjab collected revenue of ₹8,841.4 crore from the sale of liquor during 2022-2023 against revenue of ₹6,254.74 crore during the 2021-22 financial year, reporting an increase of 41.41%.

Punjab Government breaks record in GST collection. The government's GST collection in 2022-23 stood at ₹18,126 crore, an increase of 16.6% over the previous year.

Emphasizing on revenue of Punjab, revenue of Punjab has been increased to 78 pc only in the month of March due to  2.25 pc exemption in stamp duty on property registration till March 31

Punjab CM Mann further added that Punjab government cleared 20k crore subsidy bill of PSPCL despite providing 300 units free power to domestic consumers. Proving employment to youths,  Bhagwant Mann announced 3,538 new jobs in PSPCL. 

Focusing on the education sector, Punjab government announced to open 8 to 10 free of cost UPSC coaching centres for youths. 

Replying to a question on radical preacher Amritpal Singh, who continues to be on the run since March 18 when Punjab Police launched a crackdown against him and his aides, Mann said, "when any development comes, we will let you know."

To a query on crop damage because of rains, Mann said 60 per cent girdawari (field inspection) to assess the loss is complete and also said the compensation will be given to affected farmers. The distribution of compensation will start from Baisakhi, he said.
