Punjab Cabinet okays recruitment of 1,800 constables, 300 sub-inspectors every year

Chandigarh, December 12: Amid criticism over "deteriorating" law and order in the state, the Punjab Cabinet, led by CM Bhagwant Mann, on Monday announced to recruit 1,800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors in the Punjab Police every year.

The decision seems to be driven by "criticism" the Punjab Government, led by Bhagwant Mann, has been facing over recent killings and that too of persons having police protection. A police station in Tarn Taran was also attacked with an RPG two days ago.

Addressing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said nod to the schedule for the annual recruitment in the Punjab Police had been given by the Council of Ministers.
