PTC Web Desk: A Customs Department official of the rank of Assistant Commissioner lost his life after being struck by a train in Phagwara, Punjab. The deceased has been identified as Seva Ram, a resident of Shri Guru Ravidas Nagar in Jalandhar. The incident occurred on Sunday near the Phagwara-Jalandhar Nangal railway crossing. The body has been taken into custody by the Phagwara Government Railway Police (GRP) and sent for post-mortem examination at the Phagwara Civil Hospital.

According to Station House Officer of the Railway Police Joginder Singh, the deceased, aged 59, was stationed as an Assistant Commissioner in the Customs Department in Jalandhar. He had arrived with a tape measure to survey the land at the Nangal railway crossing. Due to the gate being closed, he had parked his car on the side. As Seva Ram attempted to cross the railway crossing, a passenger train travelling from Phagwara to Jalandhar was approaching. After quickly crossing one track, he failed to notice a freight train heading from Jalandhar to Ludhiana and was struck, resulting in his death on the spot.

Identification was made based on an ID found in his pocket. The deceased was due to retire from service in just a few days.
