Punjab Assembly Session Day 2: AAP, Congress clash over corruption allegations
PTC Web Desk: The last day of the two-day Punjab Assembly special session commenced with a heated exchange between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition Congress over corruption allegations. During the Question Hour, Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa accused the AAP government of financial misconduct, claiming that a PSPCL association had alleged that officials were instructed to collect funds for the Delhi elections.
In response, Punjab’s Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO countered the allegations, shifting the blame onto the Congress party. The session further intensified when Bajwa raised concerns over a former vigilance chief’s report, which allegedly identified 48 revenue officials as corrupt. Additionally, a retired revenue officer claimed that corruption worth Rs 1,000 crore occured monthly in tehsil offices. Bajwa demanded a vigilance inquiry into these matters.
Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan intervened, questioning the authenticity of Bajwa’s claims. This led to a verbal clash between AAP ministers and Congress legislators.
