Punjab AG Gurminder Singh resigns, 3rd to quit post under AAP govt
PTC News Desk: Punjab advocate general (AG) Gurminder Singh has resigned from his position, 18 months after he was appointed to the post. Singh stepped down from his position reportedly citing 'personal reasons'.
He is the third AG to quit post under AAP government's three year tenure. However it has not been ascertained yet that whether the government has accepted the resignation or not.
The first one to resign was AG Anmol Rattan Sidhu in July 2022. He was replaced by senior advocate Vinod Ghai, who also tendered resignation in October 2023, following which Gurminder Singh was appointed.
Officially, the AG office had termed it as an “rationalisation exercise”.
The Punjab government has been subjected to criticism due to the legal reshuffle that the govt has been attempting. Earlier last month over 200 law officers were told to step down as part of the 'image revamp'
According to the reports, there has also been growing tension and dissent for the government over the legal framework and decions which prompted Singh's resignation.
