"Gurbani is already free. All PTC Network channels are designated as free-to-air channels by the government of India. No cable operator, DTH operator, charges any money. It is also available for free on YouTube and Facebook. So how are they claiming to make Gurbani Free To Air?" Rabindra Narayan, Managing Director, PTC Network, said.
PTC MD Narayan reiterated that no money was being charged by any cable operator or DTH operator for Gurbani. It is also freely available on platforms like YouTube and Facebook. Therefore, he questioned the claims of certain entities that they are making Gurbani free to air.
During a recent statement, the Punjab chief minister emphasised that Gurbani is a fundamental right for all and should be accessible without charge. He expressed intentions to introduce a new section into the Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1925, by submitting a proposal in the state assembly.
"With the blessings of God, we are going to make a historic decision tomorrow, as per the demand of all devotes, we are adding a new clause in the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925 that the transmission of Gurbani from Harminder Sahib will be free for all... no tender required... tomorrow in the cabinet... on June 20, a vote will be taken in the state assembly," his tweet read.
Rabindra Narayan, Managing Director, PTC Network, further challenged the entire cabinet to introduce a consumer bill that would reward anyone who has paid to listen to Gurbani Kirtan across the country with a prize of Rs 1crore.
Since 1998, Harmandir Sahib has been broadcasting Gurbani in the morning and evening sessions.
SGPC and PTC Network's contract for Gurbani telecast will expire in July 2023. SGPC has accused the government of interfering in religious matters.
