Patiala shooting incident: Woman was alcohol addict, no information about her family, say police
A day after the Patiala shooting incident, SSP Varun Sharma held a press conference on Monday and revealed that the woman, who was shot dead in Gurdwara Dukhniwarn Sahib, was an alcohol addict.
The police, so far, have no information about the deceased woman's family. SSP Sharma further said that a medical receipt from a de-addiction centre was also recovered from her. According to the de-addiction centre, the woman was suffering from constant mood swings, depression and negative thoughts.
The police official further informed that the deceased and accused were not linked and he took action in the heat of the moment.
A woman was allegedly shot dead on Sunday for having liquor near Sarovar of Gurdwara Dukhniwarn Sahib.
According to the information shared by SSP Varun Sharma, Patiala, the incident took place at around 9:30 pm. The deceased has been identified as Parminder Kaur. According to the police, the 32-year-old is a resident of Urban Estate Phase I.
"Parminder Kaur was having liquor near Sarovar of Gurdwara Dukhniwarn Sahib. Noticing this, sangat gathered and took her to the manager's office. One Nirmaljeet Singh Saini present at the site, in anger, shot five times at her," informed SSP Varun Sharma.
"The lady was being taken out of the Gurdwara premises when a man named Nirmaljeet Singh s/o Sadhu Singh fired 5 rounds using his 32-bore licenced revolver," the official statement says.
According to the information received from sources, one person was also injured in the firing. He has been identified as Sagar Kumar. The bullet grazed Sagar, who was then rushed to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala for treatment. He is said to be in stable condition.
