Patiala: Rajiv Gandhi National Law University students ramp up protest against VC; set up tent at main gate

PTC Web Desk: The controversy at Patiala's Rajiv Gandhi National Law University (RGNUL) has escalated after the Vice Chancellor (VC) allegedly visited the girls' hostel without prior notice and commented on the students' clothing. The student protest entered its third day on Tuesday, with protesters setting up a tent at the university gate and staging a sit-in. They have vowed not to back down until the VC resigns.

The students have written letters to the Chief Justice of India and the Bar Association, urging them to take action. Meanwhile, the university has formed a committee to address the students' complaints. On the committee’s recommendation, the university has declared a temporary holiday until further notice, allowing students the option to return home.

The issue began on Sunday afternoon, when students alleged that while parents are not allowed inside the hostel, the VC conducted unannounced checks without proper notice. Students claim the VC made inappropriate comments about their appearance during his visit, which they found unacceptable.

Despite the university declaring a holiday, the students have refused to end their protest. Although no police complaint has been filed yet, the students remain firm in their demands for the VC's resignation. The incident marks a first of its kind at the university, with efforts being made by the administration to resolve the matter.
