Patiala, June 13: Farmers protesting against the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited ( PSPCL) in Punjab's Patiala were forcibly removed by the police on Tuesday. Meanwhile, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal along with others has been arrested.
The police team led by IG Mukhwinder Singh Chhina and SSP Varun Sharma cleared the protest site in the wee hours. Police reportedly started the action against protesting farmers at around 3:30 am on Tuesday and removed the protesters from the PSPCL office gate by 6 am, arresting several farmers and farm leaders.
The gates of the PSPCL office in Patiala have reopened, and work will resume today (June 13).
SDM Charanjit Singh and SSP Varun Sharma, according to information received, met with farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. The cops began forcibly removing the farmers after Dallewal refused to cease the protest.
Last week, protesting farmers barred PSPCL employees from entering the premises.
For the past few days, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) has been protesting outside the Patiala PSPCL office. The farmer body's president, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, stated that the demonstration will continue until the government accepts all of the farmers' demands.
The SKM (non-political) has been opposing a number of concerns, including the installation of smart metres, the delay in providing new connections to farmers, the release of pending tubewell connections, and more.
