Pastor Bajinder Singh gets life imprisonment in 2018 sexual assault case
PTC News Desk: A Mohali court has announced life imprisonment for Pastor Bajinder Singh in a sexual assault case. Earlier on Friday, Bajinder Singh was convicted in a sexual assault case involving a woman in Zirakpur. Now the court while pronouncing quantum of sentence has announced life term for the convict.
Singh will be serving his life sentence in Mansa's district jail. Earlier he was kept in Patiala jail after he was convicted in the case by Mohali court.
The Jalandhar based pastor who claims to heal ailments through miracles was accused of sexually assaulting a woman. He appeared before the court on Monday, after which the verdict was reserved. On Friday, the court declared him guilty.
The victim's lawyer, Advocate Anil Sagar says, "He was popular as a spiritual leader. His followers used to call him 'Papa ji'. When this kind of crime is committed by such a person, an exemplary punishment must be given. We are satisfied with the quantum of sentence, which is life imprisonment. He has to stay behind bars until his last breath..."
The woman had earlier filed a complaint against the pastor, alleging sexual misconduct at his Jalandhar-based church, "The Church of Glory and Wisdom." She claimed he started sending her inappropriate messages, summoned her alone to his cabin, and engaged in unwanted advances.
A video of pastor Bajinder Singh physically assaulting a woman surfaced on March 16, showing him slapping her inside his Chandigarh office. The video, dated February 14, went viral, revealing that the victim, a Mohali resident, had worked at his organisation.
