Paddy procurement, stubble issues & more: Punjab farmers continue their protest for 2nd day

PTC News Desk: Punjab farmers continued their protest on Sunday for the second day.

Farmers staged roadblocks, or "chakka jam," across several parts of Punjab, including Sangrur, Moga, Phagwara, and Batla, as a form of protest.

The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh committee and Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) joined in the protest.

Kisan Mazdoor Morcha Coordinator Sarwan Singh Pandher, who was present at the protest site in Phagwara, stated, "The indefinite roadblocks announced by both fronts with demands for paddy procurement, DAP, and stubble issues have reached the second day. The Chief Minister went to Delhi yesterday and said he had conversations with the MHA and JP Nadda."

"The sellers and the centre have not reached a decision yet... Ravneet Singh Bittu should talk to the centre as well as the sellers to reach an agreement... The Chief Minister will be busy campaigning in Hoshiarpur for the bye-elections, but he has promised to meet with us... The Punjab government takes a different stand on the stubble issue. The CM attacked farmers yesterday in Delhi, claiming that they obstruct highways," he added.

The farmers also protested against police actions against them for stubble burning on Saturday.

On Saturday, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers JP Nadda met with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to review the availability of DAP (Di-ammonium Phosphate) fertiliser for the current agricultural season.

The Chief Minister emphasised Punjab's need for DAP supply at this critical moment. Following this, JP Nadda assured him of the Centre's commitment to providing sufficient DAP supply for Punjab.
