PTC Web Desk: An orange alert has been issued for fog and cold wave conditions in Punjab due to a cyclonic circulation surrounding the region. Fog is expected to intensify on Monday, potentially reducing visibility to zero. Additionally, snowfall continues in the mountains, which will contribute to a drop in temperatures in Punjab and Chandigarh.

The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for fog in Chandigarh. An orange alert for fog and cold wave has been issued in the districts of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, and Mansa. A yellow alert for fog and cold wave has been issued for the remaining areas of Punjab.

The weather department predicts that the impact of fog and cold wave may persist until January 3. During this period, the temperature in Punjab may drop by up to 3 degrees Celsius, while Chandigarh's temperature is expected to remain relatively stable.

The Meteorological Centre said Chandigarh, Punjab, and Haryana experienced rainfall in the last days of December. Two new western disturbances are expected to become active from January 1 to 6, which will affect the Western Himalayas. This could lead to rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and the plains, further lowering temperatures in Punjab and Chandigarh.
