PTC Web Desk:  The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at the residences of relatives and supporters of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh in Punjab's Baba Bakala  subdivision early Friday morning. The operation began at 5 am at the residence of Amritpal Singh’s uncle, Pargat Singh, in Rayya, though Pargat was not present at the time.

Amarjit Kaur, Pargat Singh’s wife, was taken by the NIA team to Beas police station for questioning. Another of Amritpal Singh’s uncles, Sukhchain Singh, also reached the police station shortly afterward. Besides, a raid was carried out at the home of Amritpal Singh’s brother-in-law, Amarjot Singh, in Batala. Amarjot Singh is currently based in Canada. Properties belonging to Amritpal Singh’s relatives in Mehta, Amritsar district, and Sri Hargobindpur Sahib, Gurdaspur district, were also searched.

In response to the raids, Amritpal Singh’s team issued a statement, expressing concern over the harassment of the MP’s family, particularly the elderly women. The statement criticised the repeated disturbances despite Amritpal Singh’s democratic election from Khadoor Sahib. It further questioned the government’s focus on targeting the MP’s family rather than addressing pressing issues in Punjab, such as drug addiction and gangsterism

Meanwhile, in the early hours of Friday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) also conducted a raid at the residence of Gurwinder Singh (Nihang Singh), at Baharowal village, near Banga city. The operation began at 4 am and involved approximately 30 police personnel.

Gurwinder Singh is known for his business of crafting and refurbishing kirpans (traditional Sikh swords). Singh’s enterprise includes repurposing old kirpans and selling them in a new form to clients across various countries. Recent investigations revealed that Singh had engaged in a transaction involving Rs 16 lakh (approximately $20,000) from abroad over the past two years.

Reacting to the NIA raid, Gurwinder Singh said his only association was with the Sikh community and that his work was focused on preserving and promoting sacred Sikh texts and artifacts. He denied any involvement in illicit activities.
