Monsoon set to resume in Punjab and Chandigarh from September 2; heavy rain forecast across state

PTC Web Desk: The monsoon is set to re-activate in Punjab and Chandigarh from September 2, with rain expected across the state from Monday through Wednesday. However, a low-pressure area in Uttar Pradesh, near the Haryana border, has slightly diminished the monsoon’s intensity, leading to the recent withdrawal of the yellow alert issued by the Meteorological Department.

In recent days, sunny weather has caused temperatures in various districts of Punjab to climb close to 37 degrees Celsius, with Faridkot recording a high of 37.4 degrees. Most other districts have seen temperatures hovering around 34-35 degrees Celsius.

As the monsoon gains momentum, heavy rainfall is expected in districts such as Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, and S.A.S. Nagar. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall is anticipated in Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr, Amritsar, and Gurdaspur. The forecast suggests that most districts will experience rain on Tuesday, September 3.

This upcoming rainfall is expected to provide much-needed relief from the recent heatwave, bringing down temperatures and offering respite to the residents. The reactivation of the monsoon is a significant weather event, especially for the agricultural sector, which relies heavily on timely rainfall for the success of crops. As the monsoon season progresses, it is hoped that the rains will benefit both agriculture and the overall climate in the region.
