Man attempts to deface Ambedkar statue in Amritsar, arrested by Amritsar police
PTC News Desk: The Amritsar police has arrested a miscreant on Sunday for allegedly attempting to vandalise the statue of Dr. B R Ambedkar at the Town Hall on Heritage Street that leads to the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
The video of the incident went viral which showed a man using a ladder to climb atop of the statue kept hammering away defacing the sculpture of Ambedkar in the heart of Amritsar.
The motive behind the incident has not been ascertained yet. The police has registered a acase against accused and investigation into the matter has been launched.
The leaders across the party line have unwaveringly condemned the incident. "I condemn the attack on the statue of Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar. I request the Government to take stern action against people who are behind this whole incident," said Congress' Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla.
Meanwhile Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal while criticising has described the incident as "heinous act" which has hurt the sentiments of millions and sought stern action against the accused.
"Strongly condemn the attempt to desecrate the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar ji’s statue at the Heritage Street in Sri Amritsar Sahib on Republic Day . This heinous act has hurt the sentiments of millions. I demand stern action against the culprit and a thorough inquiry to unravel the conspiracy behind this shameful incident. Let's stand united against such vile attempts to create divisions in our society," Badal stated in a post on X.
