Ludhiana: Protesters block Amritsar-Delhi Highway; seeks NSA action in Ambedkar statue desecration case

PTC Web Desk: Members of the Dalit community staged a protest in Ludhiana on Tuesday in response to the desecration of Dr BR Ambedkar’s statue in Amritsar. The demonstrators blocked the Amritsar-Delhi highway, demanding strict action against the culprits.

Protesters gathered at Ghanta Ghar Chowk and organised a protest march, later submitting a memorandum to police officials.

Dalit leaders condemned the incident, calling it an unforgivable act. They demanded action under the National Security Act (NSA) against the accused. "Dr Ambedkar ensured equal rights for all in society, and any disrespect to his statue is intolerable," they stated.

Despite the call for a shutdown, normalcy prevailed in the city, with businesses and markets functioning as usual. Protesters registered their dissent peacefully while reiterating their demand for stringent measures against the offenders.
