Ludhiana encounter: Three gangsters arrested after gunfight with police
PTC Web Desk: In a late-night operation, the Ludhiana police and CIA staff engaged in an encounter with three armed criminals on Dhandra Road around 12.30 am. The suspects, travelling in an unregistered Swift car, opened fire on the police, prompting retaliatory action.
During the gunfight, the police shot the accused in their legs before arresting them. Two illegal pistols were recovered from their possession. The injured suspects were rushed to the hospital for treatment and later identified as Ankush (23), Mudit (24), and Abhijeet Mand (24).
Investigations revealed that one of the accused impersonated gangster Prabh Dasuwal—who is currently residing in the United States—to threaten a travel agent in Ludhiana. The criminals demanded Rs 50 lakh in extortion money.
On March 16, the travel agent, who operates a business on Gill Road, received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number, followed by a call. The caller claimed knowledge of the agent’s daily routine and vehicle parking location. He warned of dire consequences if the money was not delivered to Tarn Taran.
The extortionists also mentioned the agent’s visa services for Dubai and Saudi Arabia, using this information to intimidate him. Following the threats, the travel agent reported the matter to the police.
The police confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the unidentified accused under Sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 308(2) (extortion), and 62 (attempt to commit a crime) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). The police are now investigating the caller’s identity and tracking the extortion network.
