Lawrence Bishnoi jail interview case: Polygraph test approved for 7 Punjab Police personnel
PTC Web Desk: In a significant development in the ongoing investigation of the jailhouse interview of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, a Mohali court has granted permission for the polygraph (lie detector) test of seven Punjab Police personnel. The request for this scientific probe was filed by ADGP Nilabh Kishore of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, in coordination with the public prosecutor.
The polygraph test—commonly known as a lie detector test—measures physiological indicators such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, and skin conductivity, which may change when a person is being deceptive. These tests are typically used in criminal investigations to identify inconsistencies in testimonies and uncover hidden information.
Those who will undergo polygraph test are Sub-Inspector Jagatpal Jaggu, ASI Mukhtiar Singh, constable Simranjit Singh, constable Harpreet Singh, constable Balwinder Singh, constable Satnam Singh and constable Amritpal Singh.
As per the investigation team’s submission to the court, all involved officials have already had their statements recorded. Under Indian law and scientific protocols, polygraph tests can only be conducted with the voluntary consent of the individuals involved. In this case, six out of the seven police personnel have willingly agreed to undergo the test. Based on this, the court authorised the investigating officer to proceed with the polygraph examinations as per legal norms.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that agencies suspect internal collusion in the prison system. The interview, which was conducted while Lawrence Bishnoi was in custody, is believed to have taken place with insider assistance—something the polygraph test aims to uncover. Investigators are specifically probing whether any member of the jail or police staff facilitated access to the media.
The controversial interview of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi took place while he was detained at the CIA Police Station in Kharar.
