Know why Amritpal Singh chose Bhindrawale's Rode village to surrender
PTC Web Desk: After being on the run since March 18, Waris Punjab De head and Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh surrendered before Rode village in Punjab’s Moga district on Sunday morning.
Amritpal Singh is referred to as Bhindrawale 2.0 for he remains dressed like him and follows his ideologies. When he surrendered at Moga, he was in his Sikhi Saroop and ensured that his videos are made before surrender. He also paid tributes to Bhindrawale.
A self-styled preacher, Amritpal was in Dubai for a decade before he returned to Punjab in September 2022. He hogged the limelight after having been controversially appointed as the leader of Waris Punjab De (Heirs of Punjab), previously headed by actor Deep Sidhu, who died in a car accident.
After becoming the head of Waris Punjab De, he started a campaign that encouraged youth to refrain from drugs, adopt a traditionalist form of Sikhism, and advocated a sovereign Sikh state Khalistan.
Why Amritpal chose Rode village to surrender?
Rode village is the birth place of Bhindrawale. It is from here that he had launched ‘Khalsa Waheer’. Moreover, it was at Rode village that Amritpal’s ‘Dastar Bandi’ was organised. Dastar Bandi denotes that the individual should work for the welfare of Sikh Quom.
Jasbir Singh Rode, a former Jathedar of the Akal Takht, claimed that they had got inputs about surrender by Amritpal Singh at 12.30 am. By the time he reached Rode village at 4 am, Amritpal Singh was already there.
In the morning, he himself surrendered before the police. Jasbir Singh Rode rebutted the Punjab Police claim that he was arrested.
He said Amritpal Singh came to gurdwara at Rode village, paid obeisance and recited path.
In the video, Amritpal Singh can be heard claiming that he is “going to surrender today”.
He also prepared his kit containing essential items such as clothes and five elements of Sikhism.
Later, it was conveyed to the police that Amritpal Singh would surrender and that they should reach Rode village. Amritpal Singh was then taken to Bathinda, from where he was further flown to Assam’s Dibrugarh jail, where his other aides are also lodged.
Big question on Punjab Police' functioning
The surrender by Amritpal Singh also puts a big question mark over the working of the Punjab Police.
The 'Operation Amritpal' is not less than a drama. One fine day, the Punjab Police launched a massive crackdown on Amritpal’s outfit and despite claiming to have a big force, it failed to arrest Amritpal and he managed to give the police a slip.
It did a number of press briefings claiming CCTVs footages have surfaced, wherein Amritpal could be seen in various avatars. But nothing concreate came out of them.
Later, the release of a video by Amritpal Singh further put a big question mark over the working of the police.
Now that when Amritpal has surrendered at Punjab’s Rode village, it further raises questions regarding the failure of the Punjab Police intelligence.
