Khadoor Sahib MP Amirtpal Singh slapped with UAPA in murder case
PTC News Desk: The Punjab Police has invoked Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against Khadoor Sahib MP in a murder case.
This is the first time that UAPA provisions have been added to a case against Amritpal Singh. The stringent act has been invoked on the charges of murder of a Sikh activist from Hari Nau village in Faridkot.
On October 10 last year, three assailants shot dead Gurpreet Singh at Hari Nau village. Arsh Dalla, a designated terrorist, was also named an accused in the case.
The significant development comes ahead of political rally organised by Amritpal Singh's supporters during Maghi Mela in Sri Muktsar Sahib on January 14 and most likely to announce their new political party. Charged under the stringent National Security Act (NSA), the MP is lodged in the Dibrugarh jail of Assam along with his nine associates.
Faridkot SSP Pragya Jain while confirming the development said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has informed the court about incorporating the UAPA sections.
A crucial court hearing regarding the National Security Act (NSA) imposed on Amritpal Singh is also scheduled for January 15.
The Punjab police had arrested two operatives of Canada-based designated terrorist Arshdeep Singh Gill, alias Arsh Dalla in connection with the case who was later identified as the mastermind of the murder.
