Jalandhar man among 12 workers killed in Georgia gas leak, body arrives home

PTC Web Desk: The body of Ravinder, a resident of Jalandhar, who tragically lost his life in a gas leak incident at a mountain resort in Georgia, arrived in Jalandhar on Saturday. Ravinder was one of the 12 workers, including 11 Punjabis, who perished in the tragic accident. His family, devastated by the loss, is now grappling with the emotional and financial hardships that have followed.

Ravinder was a resident of the Kot Ramdas area near the Laddiwali Flyover in Jalandhar.

When Ravinder's body arrived in Jalandhar, his family was overwhelmed with grief. His family members were seen crying uncontrollably, and it was the first time his son had seen his father’s face. Ravinder’s wife, Kanchan, said she has three children, and Ravinder had gone abroad for their better future, especially for their son Arman. However, Ravinder had never seen his son’s face in person, having only seen him through video calls. Ravinder had been working abroad for eight years.

Amarjot Singh from the Sarbat Da Bhala Trust said the bodies of 11 Punjabis had been repatriated from Georgia. Earlier, four bodies were returned, followed by another four two days later, and yesterday, three more bodies arrived in Punjab. Today, Ravinder’s body has arrived.

Amarjot Singh said the trust members had arrived in the area to offer support during this difficult time. Regarding government aid, he said the situation would be addressed after consulting with the authorities concerned. Dr. SP Singh Oberoi, a member of the trust, has instructed the members to meet the families of the victims and gather information about their needs. Any support that the trust can provide will be offered.

Meanwhile, Ravinder's wife, Kanchan, has appealed to the government for assistance. She stated that her husband used to send money for their upkeep, but now, without him, their situation has become dire. She said they did not even have a house to live in. Kanchan said her son, Arman, had never met his father in person, only seeing him through video calls. The couple's three children are studying at KV School in Rama Mandi, and Kanchan requested the government to assist her children in their education and provide her with a job so that she can support her family.
