Jalandhar encounter: Two aides of Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang held after brief chase; arms and ammunition recovered
PTC Web Desk: In a significant operation, the Jalandhar police thwarted a potential major crime by apprehending two accomplices of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang during an encounter on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred near Wadala Chowk, where the criminals, travelling in an i20 car, opened fire on a CIA team pursuing them.
One gangster was injured in the retaliatory firing, while the other was caught after a brief chase. A third accomplice managed to escape before the encounter. Both accused are currently undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were in contact with Goldy Brar, a close associate of Lawrence Bishnoi. Under his instructions, they were involved in extortion calls and targeted rival gang members. The police suspect the gang was planning a major crime in Jalandhar.
DGP Gaurav Yadav commented on the operation via X (formerly Twitter), stating, "The arrest of these accused has dealt a significant blow to the criminal network involved in drug trafficking, illegal arms trade, and extortion rackets."
Acting on intelligence about the gang's movement from Moga to Jalandhar, the CIA team tracked the suspects’ vehicle. After a four-km chase, the gang members fired five rounds at the police near Wadala Chowk. In the ensuing exchange, one suspect was shot in the leg, while the other attempted to flee but was apprehended. The police recovered four illegal weapons from their possession.
Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said both criminals, Balraj from Kapurthala and Pawan from Jandiyaala village, had six FIRs registered against them for serious offenses, including murder and extortion.
“These criminals were making extortion calls under Goldy Brar’s directions. They were also targeting members of rival gangs and planning multiple crimes in Punjab. Their arrests have disrupted a significant criminal operation,” Sharma stated.
One suspect was released from prison 10 months ago, and the other six months ago. Senior police officials have sealed the surrounding areas to locate the third suspect who escaped.
