Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal ends hunger strike after 131 days

PTC News Desk: Farmer leader jagjit Singh Dallewal has finally ended hunger strike after a long period of 126 days.

The decison was taken during a mahapanchayat of Samyukt Kisan Morcha(non-political) leaders on Sunday. The mahapanchayat was held at grain market of Fatehgarh Sahib's Sirhind with prime focus on Dallewal's fast-unto death. The leaders of the farmers organisations have unanimously welcomed the move.

However, Dallewal has asserted that in spite of ending hunger strike, they will continue to fight and press their demands against Centre including Legal guarantee for MSP. The farmer leaders have also indicated that they are likely to hold large gatherings in upcoming days to make spread awareness about the demands of the farmers.

Earlier Shivraj Singh Chouhan appealed to Jagjit Singh Dallewal to end his hunger strike asserting that Union ministers will meet representatives of farmers' organisations for talks on May 4 as previously scheduled.

In a post on X, Chouhan said, "The ongoing dialogue between the representatives of the Government of India and the representatives of farmers' organizations regarding their demands is continuing. Farmer leader Shri Jagjit Singh Dallewal has now returned from hospital and we wish him a speedy recovery. We also request him to end his hunger strike and we will meet with the representatives of the farmers' organizations for talks at 11 am on May 4 as per the already decided date."
