Punjab and Haryana HC questions legality of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s detention
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday heard a petition regarding the alleged illegal detention of farmer leader jagjit Singh Dallewal and other farmers by the Punjab Police. During the proceedings, the Punjab government submitted a status report, asserting that Dallewal is not in police custody but was admitted to Patiala hospital with his consent.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the state government to allow Dallewal to meet his family and said his detention was unlawful. The court further remarked that the state must ensure legal compliance in such cases.
Notably, BKU (Doaba) chief Gurmukh Singh had filed a petition on March 21, challenging the detention of farmers and terming it illegal. The matter remains under judicial review.
