Intense cold wave sweeps Punjab; Gurdaspur shivers at 2.2 degrees Celsius
Punjab Weather update: Intense cold wave conditions continue unabated in Punjab with visibility due to fog reducing to 25 metre. As per the Met department, the situation is likely to remain the same for the next few days due to western disturbance.
The Meteorological Department has issued an 'orange alert' in Punjab till January 6. On the other hand, western wave may be accompanied by snowfall in higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh till January 7, which could increase foggy conditions in North India, including Punjab, in the coming days.
In Amritsar, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.5 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was 13 degrees Celsius. The temperature is expected to be around 13 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

In Jalandhar, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius while on Wednesday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 12.3 degrees. The temperature is expected to be around 13 degrees Celsius on Thursday. In Ludhiana, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.5 degrees Celsius.
The border district of Gurdaspur is shivering as the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state. The maximum temperature was recorded at 10 degrees. The temperature may be close to 11 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

On the other hand, the Punjab Government has already extended winter vacations in schools. All private, government and aided schools in Punjab will now open on January 9. Earlier, the schools were scheduled to open on January 2.
