HC rejects Manisha Gulati’s plea challenging her removal as women panel chief

Chandigarh, March 28: Big blow to Manisha Gulati as the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday rejected Manisha Gulati’s petition challenging her removal as chairperson of the Punjab State Commission for Women.

The petitioner Manisha Gulati had sought cancellation of the state government's order on the basis of technical reasons, including the reason not being cleared in the government orders.

Earlier, on March 17, the Punjab and Haryana High Court reserved the order on Manisha Gulati’s petition after hearing the arguments from both sides at length. Before that the High Court adjourned the hearing of the petition filed by Manisha Gulati, contesting her removal as Punjab women panel chief.

Notably, Manisha Gulati filed a High Court petition challenging her removal as chairperson of the Punjab State Commission for Women. Among other things, it was claimed that the removal was totally illegal and erroneous.

She was appointed chairperson of the women's panel by the previous Congress government in March 2018.

She was even given a one-year extension until September 2020. Manisha, on the other hand, joined the BJP in February 2022, just days before the 16th Punjab Assembly elections.
