Guru Nanak Dev ji Gurpurb 2024: Sikh jatha leaves for Pakistan amid chants of 'Satnam Waheguru'

PTC Web Desk: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, a Sikh jatha departed for Pakistan on Thursday despite extremely low visibility. The jatha will return to India on November 23, after a 10-day pilgrimage. A total of 763 devotees left amidst chants of "Satnam Waheguru."

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) facilitated the visas for these 763 pilgrims, enabling them to travel to Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib in Pakistan to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Yesterday, the pilgrims were handed their passports with visas at the SGPC office.

SGPC secretary Partap Singh said 2,244 passports were sent to the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi for visa processing. Out of these, visas were issued to 763 pilgrims, while 1,481 applicants did not receive visas. He expressed disappointment over the large number of rejected visas, calling it an unfortunate situation.

Leading the group is SGPC member Gurnam Singh Jassal, with SGPC member Bibi Sharanjeet Kaur as deputy leader. General manager Palwinder Singh and Gurmeet Singh will also accompany the jatha.
