Gurdaspur killings: ASI shoots himself dead hours after murdering wife, son; kidnapped girl rescued
Gurdaspur, April 4: Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Bhupinder Singh, who allegedly shot his wife and son dead in Gurdaspur district of Punjab on Tuesday, later died by suicide in the evening. The reason behind his extreme step is still unknown.
ASI Bhupinder Singh allegedly killed his wife and son, identified as Baljit Kaur and Lovepreet Singh, with his service weapon. The incident took place at Bhumbli village in the morning. The accused was posted in Amritsar. As per information, ASI Bhupinder Singh Singh also opened fire at his pet dog.
The ASI fled the scene after allegedly kidnapping a teenage girl, who lived in his neighbourhood. Senior police officials also reached the spot.
The police got a tip-off that the ASI along with the girl was hiding in the house of an acquaintance at Shabpur village near Batala. The Batala police beefed up security at the village. The ASI was carrying his rifle with him. Fearing the accused may commit another crime, the police party persuaded him till 6 pm to surrender.
The police managed to recue the girl. However, Bhupinder Singh shot himself dead. He was taken to the Batala Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him as brought dead.
