Farmers to stage 'rail roko' agitation across Punjab on December 18, train services may disrupt
PTC News Desk: On the heels of the ongoing protest, farmers have announced rail roko agitation across Punjab on December 18 for three hours starting from 12 noon. Farm leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has urged the people for maximum participation in the protest.
"Tomorrow we will conduct Rail Roko in Punjab; I urge everyone to stop railways from 12 to 3 PM," Pandher said.
The announcement has been made in order to ramp up the pressure on central government to engage in meaningful dialogue on their demands after their multiple attempts to enter the national capital were thwarted by Haryana police citing lack of permission from central authorities.
Pandher further urged the central government to take 'immediate' action and engage with the farmers' representatives in a 'meaningful' dialogue.
A “jatha” (group) of 101 farmers attempted to enter Delhi by foot on December 6, December 8 and again on December 14, but were not allowed to proceed by security personnel from Haryana.
