Farmers' protest: The hunger strike of farmer leader jagjit Singh Dallewal, demanding legal guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and 12 other issues, has entered its 60th day today (Friday). Doctors have reported gradual improvement in his health. Meanwhile, the Facebook page of Dr Swaiman, a social activist providing medical assistance to Dallewal, has been taken down.

The removal of Dr  Swaiman's account has sparked controversy, especially after he recently urged the Central Government to engage in immediate talks with the farmers, emphasising that sustaining Dallewal without medical aid would be challenging. In response to the shutdown, Dr Swaiman stated, “Whatever I have said is accurate. I am not earning money from social media.”

Doctors monitoring Dallewal have stated in a medical bulletin that exposure to fresh air and sunlight has contributed to his recovery. Farmers have also confirmed that construction of a new room for Dallewal is progressing rapidly. Until its completion, he will remain in a trolley equipped with modern amenities.

A team of doctors from Patiala is on continuous duty in shifts to ensure Dallewal receives proper care. Tests are being conducted as needed to monitor his health.

Farmers’ upcoming events

Farmers have planned two significant programmes this month:

Tractor March on January 26: The SKM (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are organising a tractor march from 12 noon to 1.30 pm across the country. The march will pass in front of shopping malls, silos, toll plazas, and BJP leaders' offices and residences. Farmer leaders will actively participate in their respective regions, and a detailed list of leaders has been prepared.

A crucial meeting will also be held to finalise plans for the Delhi march.

Akhand Path on January 28-30 An Akhand Path will begin at Khanauri farmers’ protest site on January 28, with the Bhog ceremony scheduled for January 30. Farmers are urged to gather in large numbers to participate in the programme.

Additionally, a meeting between farmers and Central Government officials is scheduled for February 14 in Chandigarh to discuss unresolved issues.

Supreme Court Intervention

The farmers’ movement has reached the Supreme Court, which has constituted a high-power committee led by a retired Justice. The committee includes experts from various fields and has already met with Jagjit Singh Dallewal.

The committee has submitted an interim report to the Supreme Court and is expected to submit its next report soon. The court will hear the matter again in February.
