Farmers' protest: 6th round of talks between farmers, Centre remains inconclusive; next meeting on March 19
PTC Web Desk: The sixth round of negotiations between farmer leaders and the Central Government in Chandigarh on Saturday ended without a resolution, with discussions primarily focusing on the issue of Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who was present at the meeting, said the government and farmers deliberated on MSP concerns, but no consensus was reached. The farmers had remained firm on their demand for legally guaranteed MSP on 23 crops.
Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Pralhad Joshi, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan represented the Centre in the talks, while a delegation of 28 farmer leaders, including jagjit Singh Dallewal, participated in the discussions.
With no breakthrough in sight, both parties have agreed to reconvene for the next round of negotiations on March 19.
According to sources, the Centre is willing to provide MSP for 2 to 3 more crops. However, farmers are demanding MSP guarantees for all 23 crops.
Meanwhile, after a meeting with farmer leaders, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "The discussion was good. We put forth the priorities of the Modi government, which is about farmers' welfare. We have also heard what farmer leaders had to say. This discussion will continue. The next meeting will be held in Chandigarh on March 19."
