"Won't end fast, morcha will win": Dallewal addresses Mahapanchayat gathering, urges people to appear in large number at protest site
PTC Web Desk: A large gathering of farmers 'Mahapanchayat' was organised at Haryana-Punjab Khanauri border on Saturday as farmer leader jagjit Singh Dallewal who is also a cancer patient, has been on an indefinite hunger strike for 40 days, continues his protest.
Dallewal was brought to stage as he addressed the Kisan Mahapanchayat. During his address, he said that the protest will continue and also urged the gathering to send one trolly from each village of Punjab to the protest site.
He further said that the police officials have made several attempts to take him but they were foiled by the volunteers at the protest site.
“I do understand that it is difficult to implement legal guarantee on MSP. But it doesn't mean that we should keep sitting and not do anything about it,” he added.
He also highlighted the suicide cases of farmers who tok their life due to the debt. "It is imperative to curb the suicide cases of farmers. The official government data shows 4 lakh farmers have committed suicide, however in reality the actual figure goes up till 7 lakh," he further added.
Meanwhile, doctors attending upon 70-year-old Dallewal advised that he should not speak much as it could deteriorate his health.
70 year old farmer leader also expressed condolences to the farmers who lost their lived in the road accident while heading towards Mahapanchayat. Dallewal urged the gathering to reach the protest site in large numbers to strengthen the agitation.
Earlier on Friday, Jagjit Singh Dallewal had appealed to farmers to appeal in large numbers to participate in Kisan Mahapanchayat and extend their support to protesting farmers in their fight for legal guarantee of MSP on crops.
