Farmers hold tractor march across Punjab on Republic Day to press MSP demands

PTC News Desk: Protesting farmers from various organisations held state wide tractor march on Republic Day to press Union government their long-standing demands including MSP guarantee and withdrawal of National Policy Framework on Agriculture Marketing (NPFAM).


The demands include legal guarantee for MSP based on the C2 plus 50 per cent formula according to the Swaminathan report, debt waiver scheme for farmers and farm workers, no privatisation of electricity, withdrawal of the National Policy Framework on Agriculture Marketing (NPFAM). 

The farmers also took out tractor march in solidarity with farm leader jagjit Singh Dallewal who is sitting on fast unto death for 62 days. 

"In order to achieve all the pending demands, a massive, determined and countrywide struggle larger than the historic farmers' struggle at the Delhi Borders of 2020-21 in participation, intensity and pan-India form have to be planned," SKM said in a recent statement.

Lok Hit Mission-Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) participated participated in a 5-km march with around 100 tractors on the Baroudi-Kurali-New Chandigarh-Majri block route, while protesters in Mohali held a tractor march from Dardi village to District Administrative Complex in Sector 76.
