According to the reports, the deceased farmer was agitated over Centre's failure to address the grievances of farmers and their legitimate demands.

Farmer who attempted suicide at Shambhu border dies at Patiala's Rajindra Hospital

PTC News Desk: A 55 year old farmer, who allegedly attempted suicide at Shambhu border, died during treatment at Patiala's Rajindra hospital on Thursday. The deceased farmer has been identified as Resham Singh, a native of Pahuwind village in Tarn Taran district.

According to the reports, the deceased farmer was agitated over the Centre's failure to address the grievances of farmers and their legitimate demands. 


The tragic incident unfolded at the site where langar was being served and the farmer gulped down poisonous substance (sulfas). As soon as the incident came to light, he was immediately rushed to the hospital. However during the treatment, he succumbed to the infection. 

This is the second incident in 11 months of the ongoing protest when a farmer has committed suicide. Earlier on December 14, a 57-year-old farmer committed suicide at Shambhu border allegedly troubled by the Centre's outlook towards farmers' demands and deteriorating health of jagjit Singh Dallewal owing to his hunger strike.
