PTC Web Desk: Heart-wrenching scenes were witnessed at Akalia village, Mansa district, Punjab, as the mortal remains of Agniveer Lovepreet Singh were brought to his native place on Friday. The 24-year-old soldier was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, leaving the entire village engulfed in both sorrow and pride.

Chants of “Shaheed Lovepreet Singh Amar Rahe” echoed through the village as residents gathered to pay their final respects. Draped in the national flag, the young martyr’s coffin was carried with full military honours.

Lovepreet Singh, who joined the Indian Army two years ago under the Agniveer scheme, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. He was the youngest of two sons in his family and was remembered as a bright, dedicated young man whose bravery had brought immense honor to his village and family.

The arrival of the martyr’s body was marked by emotional moments, with villagers lining the streets to catch a glimpse of their brave son.

Balkaur Singh, the father of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, also visited the martyr’s family and offered his condolences. He voiced concerns about the lack of substantial support for the families of martyrs. Speaking on the occasion, he criticized the Agniveer scheme, calling it exploitative.

Balkaur Singh urged both the Central and Punjab governments to provide robust support to Lovepreet Singh’s family. He demanded a substantial financial compensation package and a government job for one of the family members. “These young men risk their lives to protect the nation, but their families are often left to fend for themselves,” he said.
