Punjab: Dismissed woman constable Amandeep Kaur sent to 14-day judicial custody in drug case
PTC Web Desk: Dismissed woman constable Amandeep Kaur, who was arrested with 17.71 gm of heroin (chitta) on April 2 near Bathinda’s Ring Road, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Bathinda court on Tuesday.
Amandeep Kaur, who had been in police remand since her arrest, was produced before the court of Judge Mahesh Kumar Sharma by the Canal colony police. After hearing arguments from the defense counsel, the court rejected the police plea for an extension of her remand and ordered judicial custody till April 22.
Speaking to the media, DSP City-2 Sarbjit Singh Brar said that Amandeep Kaur was presented before the court following the completion of her police remand. He stated that the police submitted all facts gathered during the investigation so far and had requested further remand, but the court opted for judicial custody instead.
Brar refrained from revealing details of the investigation, citing ongoing inquiries. “We cannot make details public at this stage. Once the investigation is complete, a challan will be submitted before the court,” he added.
Notably, despite Kaur being in police custody since April 2, no major leads or breakthroughs have been shared with the public or media. Allegations are being made that the police are withholding facts and misleading the media, as no significant updates have emerged over the past week.
Moreover, the police have failed to apprehend Balwinder Singh, who has been named in the case alongside Amandeep Kaur. The police maintain that efforts are underway to arrest him soon.
