Diljit Chandigarh concert: Noise levels breached prescribed limit; UT informs court, seeks stern action

Diljit Chandigarh concert: Noise levels breached prescribed limit; UT informs court, seeks stern action

PTC News Desk: The Union Territory of Chandigarh informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh's concert had exceeded the prescribed noise limits under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules. The Chandigarh administration has also demanded strict action against the violaters.


According to the Chandigarh Administration, the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh had constituted three teams to ensure compliance with the court’s earlier directive. 

While issuing the permission to hold the concert in Chandigarh, court had also mandated hat the event must adhere to noise limits, maintaining ambient air quality standards with a maximum noise level of 75 decibels. The court had also directed the authorities to take penal actions against the oragnisers in case of the violation.

The High Court has adjourned the matter for further hearing in January.

According to the affidavit filed on behalf of Chandigarh administration, several team were deployed to monitor the noise levels at various locations and it was observed that the levels exceeded the prescribed limit.

"Accordingly, action under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 has been proposed vide letter dated 16.12.2024," the affidavit read.

A public interest litigation was filed in the matter by a Chandigarh resident seeking better infrastructure and regulation of the public events held at sector 34 exhibition ground.
