PTC Web Desk: With the changing weather, dengue cases are on the rise in Mohali district, with 23 new cases reported in the first three days of October. On average, 8 to 10 new cases are being recorded daily. In September alone, a total of 268 persons were infected with dengue.

According to the health department, the district had only 20 reported cases of dengue up to July 2024, while August saw an increase to 32 cases. The outbreak escalated in September with 268 cases. As of now, 343 persons have been infected with dengue in Mohali this year.

A comparison with previous years shows that in 2021, the district recorded 3,949 cases and 13 deaths, while in 2022, there were 1,831 cases and 6 deaths. In 2023, the district saw 1,329 cases with one death.

The health department is urging residents not to panic and follow preventive measures. Dengue testing and treatment are available for free at government health centres. Experts advise patients to stay hydrated by consuming plenty of fluids such as water, juices, lemon water, and coconut water, as dengue fever can lead to a drop in platelet count.

In collaboration with the municipal corporation, the health department has intensified efforts to inspect for dengue larvae. Homes where larvae are found are being fined. Residents are advised to maintain cleanliness and avoid allowing stagnant water to accumulate.
