Delhi Kooch: Farmers postpone Delhi march, urges Centre to hold meeting in Delhi before Feb 14
PTC Web Desk: Farmers from the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border have postponed their planned march to Delhi. The announcement was made during a press conference by Sarwan Singh Pandher, the convener of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM). Pandher urged the Central Government to hold a meeting in Delhi before February 14, instead of Chandigarh, as initially proposed.
Earlier in the day, Pandher stated that the farmers would march to Delhi, accusing the Central Government of trying to create division among farmers. However, following the government's invitation for talks on February 14 in Chandigarh, the agitation's strategy was altered.
The SKM had earlier called for nationwide protests at the residences of MPs and MLAs on January 20. The protests were aimed at pushing demands, including a guarantee law for Minimum Support Price (MSP).
In response to the government's invitation, the SKM has decided that instead of physical demonstrations, farmers will email their demands to MPs. Besides, the SKM has announced nationwide tractor marches on January 26 to amplify their message.
Meanwhile, despite the government's proposal for talks, farmer leader jagjit Singh Dallewal has vowed to continue his hunger strike until an MSP guarantee law is enacted. Though he began accepting medical assistance late Saturday night following farmers' requests, his health remains critical.
Medical experts have expressed concern over his ability to survive solely on medical aid until February 14. Dallewal’s indefinite hunger strike has now stretched to 56 days.
