Dallewal's health continues to worsen as hunger strike enters day 43, longest in Independent India's history
PTC News Desk: Farmer leader jagjit Singh Dallewal's fast unto death has entered day 43rd and his health continues to deteriorate. Farmer leader is sitting on indefinite hunger strike at Punjab Haryana border to press Centre for farmers's demands and doctors have expressed dire concern as over his health after a significant drop in blood pressure.
In the late hours of Monday, doctors present at the protest site noticed a significant drop in Dallewal's blood pressure leading to unconsciousness for about an hour. Dallewal's blood pressure dropped to 80/56 and is fluctuating, the doctors said.
"His condition has deteriorated. His blood pressure dropped sharply. After seeing his condition, we got worried. We cannot give him any medical assistance," said Dr Avtar Singh.
"We lifted his legs following which his blood flow improved a little bit," said Singh, who is part of a team of NGO '5 Rivers Heart Association'. "His blood pressure and pulse rate are fluctuating," he said.
The development prompted a sence of alertness amongst farmers and chants of 'Satnam Waheguru' reverberated throughout the protest site praying for his wellbeing.
Earlier on Monday, a Supreme Court constituted high power committee met 70-year old fasting Jagjit Singh Dallewal and urged to take medican aid. He has so far refused to take medical assistance, offered by the Punjab government following the apex court's directions.
As Jagjit Singh Dallewal's fast unto death enters Day 43, it is to be noted that it has now become one of the longest hunger strike in Independent India's history.
