CM Bhagwant Mann inaugurates Patiala's new bus stand

Patiala, May 16: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday inaugurated the newly-built bus stand of the city.

Several Cabinet Ministers, MLA and officials were present at the occasion. Owing to Chief Minister's visit to the city, the police have made strict security arrangements, with a large number of policemen deployed on duty.

The bus stand construction had already been completed in April. It was intended to be inaugurated in April, according to PRTC authorities, but that did not happen.

The new bus stand aims to decongest city roads by rendering them free from inter-city and inter-state buses. Its construction was initiated during the tenure of the Congress government. Then CM Captain Amarinder Singh laid its foundation stone in October 2020.

The project's initial budget was Rs 60.97 crore, which was later increased to include the construction of an elevated road leading up to the bus stop. The building work was planned to begin in January 2021 and be completed by April 2022. The deadline, however, was extended twice, first to October 2022 and then to April 2023.
